Automotive radar is a fast growing application and improves safety and comfort for all road users. As in other hightech related fields of work, the development process of such devices and functions benefits tremendously from the modern measurement equipment as well as from adequate simulations. To use simulations as far as possible becomes attractive since measurements are time consuming. To enhance such simulations of automotive radar systems, Radar Cross Section (RCS) models for high frequency approximations like the Geometric Optics (GO) or the Physical Optics (PO) can be generated on the basis of real world RCS measurements. Therefore the needed backscattering behavior of different automotive related objects (bike, scooter, compact class car, estate wagon, van) has been measured in the anechoic chamber of the European Microwave Signature Laboratory (EMSL), a laboratory of the Joint Research Center of the European Commission in Ispra, Italy, for the MOSARIM project. First monostatic measurement results are presented in this paper.
