The caudate nuclei and putamens of 30 human brains were analyzed for dopamine and its metabolite 3-methoxytyramine, most of which was presumably formed from dopamine postmortally. Dopamine and the sum (dopamine + methoxytyramine) but not methoxytyramine declined with the time interval between death and autopsy as well as with age.
