In this issue ofStructure, Gadjos et al. (2021b) determine the structure of a bacterial lectin in complex with L-fucose by neutron diffraction of both perdeuterated protein and carbohydrate ligand. The structure provides insight into lectin-ligand interactions, opening avenues for drug design targeting bacterial lectins for intervention in infectious disease.
