The influence of water on the adsorption of long-chain aliphatic amine, alcohol and carboxylic acid from toluene solutions on the surface of TiO2 (rutile) was investigated. It was found that under wet adsorption conditions the chemisorption of the acid is decreased, the chemisorption of the amine remains the same as under anhydrous conditions and there is no chemisorption of the alcohol on TiO2. The mechanism of the surfactant adsorption and desorption in the presence of water was studied using model systems with short-chain surfactant analogs and adsorption from vapors.
