A toxin from the venom of the marine snail, C. geographus, was purified to homogeneity and characterized. The toxin was a heat stable acidic protein with an apparent monomer MW of 13,000. It had no detectable toxicity to mice on i.p. injection but was a potential convulsant following intracerebral injection. It was distinct from other toxins in the venom which acted on the peripheral neuromuscular system.
