BackgroundASHCA was established in 2007 with a mission to “to proactively address ongoing and emerging occupational safety and health issues affecting US agriculture in ways that yield positive results.” ASHCA’s leadership primarily comprises agricultural business and farm organization leaders for whom safety is a value, but not a full-time focus. In its first 15 years, ASHCA has grown from a small group of committed individuals to a member organization that serves as a united voice for protecting our nation’s agricultural workforce. ASHCA convened conferences in 2010, Citation 1 2013, Citation 2 and again in 2018 Citation 3 with attendance by a mixed audience with results that included the development of new partnerships, published results, and strengthened commitment to safety. In 2020, ASHCA secured a three-year conference support grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to plan, execute, and conduct follow-up activities for a series of three annual Summit events that would include participation from influential agricultural leaders, safety practitioners, researchers, policy-makers, and others. The first event of March 2020 was cancelled just one week in advance because of the COVID-19 outbreak and impending restrictions on travel. To achieve at least some of the 2020 Summit objectives, a series of three 1-hour webinars were developed to include brief (three-minute) videotaped research presentations and safety awards. An average of 50 participants joined each webinar, and later 41 research abstracts were published in the Journal of Agromedicine. Citation 4
