Methods and ResultsWe used botulism antitoxin ABE, Connaught Laboratories, containing about 750 inter national units (IV) of type A antitoxin of equine origin per milliliter. By convention each IV neutralises 10,000 mouse LD/50 doses of type A toxin. Botulinum toxin type A is expressed in units, each unit being equal to a mouse LD/50 dose and corresponds to about 0.36 nanograms of the crystalline toxin haemagglutin complex.
