The article focuses on the genetic structuring of fish Japanese eel, Anguilla japonica, divided into low-latitude (South China and Taiwan) and high-latitude (Japan, Korea and North China) groups based on microsatellite DNA. It highlights that larval duration is an important factor in determining the dispersal of a fish and also contributes to genetic interchange among geographically distant populations. It also states that the variation on larval duration of eel is likely to be acclimatisation.
