Analysis of human coprolites (feces) soaked in a 5% aqueous solution of trisodium phosphate, allowed the identification of plant tissues as well as seeds, insects, bone, cartilage, hair and even meat debris. The method was first applied to coprolites from the Huaca Prieta of Peru, then the coprolites from the Ocompo Caves of Tamaulipas, Mexico, and finally to others from the Tehuacan Caves of Puebla, Mexico. Over a dozen plants are identified, which were generally eaten along with meat, even as far back as 6,000 B.C. || ABSTRACT AUTHORS: Author
