Changes in uterine and luteal function that occur during early pregnancy in ruminants are reviewed. It is concluded that although trophoblast protein is important in reducing uterine PG secretion in early pregnancy in sheep and cattle, other factors involved in the maintenance of the corpus luteum may be secreted by the embryo.
