This paper proposes a framework for developing the management tools needed to make appropriate, sustainable use of the properties offered by the river-aquifer interface. Although recognizing the importance of ecological processes and constraints, this paper focuses on chemical and flow issues, particularly with respect to long-term goals and in the context of effluent (aquifer to river) systems.
