The experimental observations on which the data in the table are based were made by F. W. Cox, 2 Robert H. Baker, 3· 4 AG Rossow, 6 CC Robinson6 and Richard M. Elofson. 7 Thelast named has cal-culated all the values given herewith, and has concluded7 that except for benzaldehyde, the values previously published are high by 33 mv The oxidation potentials were calculated on the basis of the oxidation potentials of certain quiñones. Three quiñones of known oxidation potentials8 were included in the series, i. e., 9, 10-anthraquinone, 154 mv., 1-chloroanthraquinone, 174 mv. and isopropyl 9, 10-anthraquinone-2-carboxylate, 222 mv. One ketone, 2, 7-dichlorofluorenone, was equilibrated against each of the three quiñones. The oxidation po-tential, E0, of 2, 7-dichlorofluorenone was cal-culated from the oxidation potential of a quinone£„'using the expression Ea=£ 0'+ RT/NFIn K where K is the equilibrium constant for the reaction given above. For 25 the expression becomes E0= E'¡+ 0.0296 log A. The oxidation potential of the ketone was found to be 157, 156 or 160 mv. depending upon the quinone used in comparison. Fluorenone and benzophenone have also been equilibrated against each other and against 9, 10-anthraquinone. These ketones were in turn equilibrated against cyclohexanone and the latter against 2, 7-dichloro-
