Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is defined by airflow limitation and symptoms. A variety of causative inhalational exposures, as well as differential responses to therapy, have long alluded to the presence of significant COPD phenotypic heterogeneity (1). Here we review three recently published papers that characterize phenotypes of COPD on the basis of spirometric parameters, computed tomography (CT) imaging features, and blood eosinophil counts.■
