Vitamin D has been used in the context of secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with end-stage renal disease. A wave of recent studies suggests that vitamin D treatment may be associated with decreased mortality risk in these patients. The article by Wolfet al.further supports these studies by identifying vitamin D deficiency as a risk factor for early mortality in incident hemodialysis patients.
