The correspondent reviews the environmental factors associated with the entry and rapid spread ofVibrio choleraeO1 biotype El Tor, serotype Inaba in Peru in 1991, which he considers consistant with multiple entry points from marine life blooms with fish, molluscs and crustacea as vectors. In view of the effect on marine plants by atmospheric carbon dioxide and by warming, he believes it essential that public health professionals and scientists participate centrally in planning developments to limit the release of carbon emissions.newline˜James Haworth
