Fcdcr et al.(1985) described several anonymous RLFPs. including an unmapped locus identified by the phage clone A. 32. Spurr ct al.(1986) used a plas mid subclone, pL32. l. to map the locus to chro mosome 11 using a somatic cell panel. The locus was given the HGM8 (1985) designation D11S16 (Willard et al., 1985).(Because of an error made at HGM8, Spurr el al.[I986J published the incorrect locus sym bol.) We now report linkage data that confirm the assignment to chromosome 11 and map D11S16 very close to the catalase locus (CAT) at 11pi 3. The D11S16 and CAT polymorphisms were both typed on three large families by standard Southern blotting procedures. Dll SI 6 was typed on genomic DNA digested with Mspl, using pL32. 1 as the probe. This probe was kindly provided by Prof. LL Cavalli-Sforza. but is now available from the ATCC. CAT was typed on genomic DNA digested with 7V «/I, using the probe “scal-snal”, a genomic clone of the catalase gene in pSP64 kindly provided by Dr. R. Gravel. Linkage analyses were done using the computer pro gram LIPED (Ott. 1976).
