Electron microscopy has revealed many details of the complex structure of the socalled simple end-bulbs of Krause (Ormea & Goglia, 1969; Goglia & Santaniello, 1970; Spassova, 1970, 1971, 1973). Pacinian corpuscles (Pease & Quilliam, 1957) and the corpuscles of Herbst (Saxod, 1970) have many features in common with the endbulbs of Krause, but there are some differences which may be of functional significance. The present study reports and discusses some features of the end-bulbs present in the cat's tongue.
