Capital goods have to be clearly identifiable for traceability. The identification procedure "batch-fingerprint" is based on stochastic properties of the elemental composition of metallic components, which cannot be counterfeited. In this paper, research results about the realization of the batch-fingerprint are presented. As part of process dependent influencing factors, different cooling strategies during the machining process and their influence on the batch-fingerprint are investigated. Furthermore, experiments are extended to a larger number of different batches for three materials in order to examine the general applicability. Based on the results, the batch-fingerprint is integrated into the lifecycle of capital goods.
