33 species from Africa are treated; 17 are new. The genus Euaphycus comprising spp. with 2- or 3-jointed maxillary palpi and 2-jointed labial palpi is not used; all such spp. are placed under Metaphycus. Keys to the African spp. of Metaphycus [female][female] and [male][male] (with exceptions), and to the [female][female] of the hederaceus group from Africa and other localities are given. The following spp. are descr. M. ferrieri, from Ceroplastes, Uganda; M. albiventris from an unidentified coccid, Eritrea; M. lineascapus from Ceroplastes and Sais-setia perseae, Natal; M. hemilecanii from Hemilecanium sp., and Asterolecanium sp., Natal and Kenya; M. lepelleyi from S. subhemisphaerica, Kenya; M. mauritanicus from Coccus hesperidum, Morocco; M. stanleyi and M. inviscus from Saissetia oleae, Cape Prov.; M. limuruensis from Ceroplastes sp., Kenya; M. obtusus from Saissetia persimilis, Natal; M. truncatus from Pulvinaria jacksoni, Natal; M. aspidiotinorum from Aspidiotus lounsburyi, Chionaspis mar-garitae, and C. natalensis, Cape Prov.; M. stramineus from C. margaritae, Pulvinaria mesembryanthemi and Saissetia oleae, Cape Prov.; M. aethiopicus, Eritrea, M. confusus, Natal, and M. africanus, Natal, all from unidentified Coc-cidae; and M. cerinus from Filippia carissae, Natal. || ABSTRACT AUTHORS: A.
