The recent publication of Spreadable media: Creating value and meaning in a networked culture (postmillennial pop) by Jenkins, Ford, and Green (2013) provides a good opportunity to examine the former books of this author. Jenkins is one of the main experts in multimedia development; he became famous when he was called to testify before the United States Senate Commerce Committee hearing into Marketing Violence for Youth following the Columbia shootings. As such, Jenkins is a great defender of popular culture (films, video games or Internet websites) and, following the pioneering works of Eco (1964), he envisages pop culture as a “serious” scientific object. He is currently a professor at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and the USC School of Cinematic Arts and is also well known for being the former Director of the MIT Comparative Media Studies programme that he founded in the mid-1990s.
