Taking Chinese Reading on Science and Technology as an example,this article discusses the issues of compiling Chinese Textbooks of specific purpose.Western theories of applied linguistics and theories of compiling textbooks of specific purpose are fulfilled in compiling the textbook of Chinese Reading on Science and Technology.Discussions focus on the orientation of textbooks,compiling principles and designs of texts and exercises in order to arouse the researchers' attention to the compiling issues.
