The article focuses on the assignment of KCNK6 encoding the human weak inward rectifier potassium channel TWIK-2 to chromosome band 19q13. 1 by radiation hybrid mapping. TWIK-2 (KCNK6) is a new weak inward rectifier tandem pore domain potassium channel that exhibits sensitivity to intracellular acidity and has sequence homology with TWIK-1. The TWIK-2 gene localized to the long arm of chromosome19 with LOD score 21. KCNK6 was found to lie between markers WI-14931 and WI-11629. Although somatic cell hybrid maps are not formally linked to cytogenetic maps, the most likely location of KCNK6 is 19q13. 1.
