Several studies have shown bacterial penetration into the gingival tissues in advanced human periodontitis. Bacterial invasion of the gingiva in a case of juvenile periodontitis has recently been reported. This presentation analyzes by electron microscopic, immunocytochemical and cultural methods the organisms that are found in the tissues in localized juvenile periodontitis (LJP) and gives additional information regarding the nature of invading microorganisms in chronic periodontitis. By using combined methodology invading microorganisms have been identified in the periodontium in juvenile periodontitis.
