Responds to J. Brown and B. Weiner's (see record 1984-14988-001) experimental test of the present authors'(see PA, Vols 62: 9720 and 63: 2020) conclusions regarding the affective consequences of ability and effort attributions for success and failure. Commonalities and differences between the attribution and self-worth theories of achievement motivation are discussed in relation to failure-induced shame and humiliation, perceived self-competency, task importance, and the effects of context on self-perception and coping processes.(31 ref)(PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
