In this paper we examine the effects of field increments on the final state of demagnetisation using a dc cyclic erasure process. The samples examined were CoNiCr thin films with variable thickness Cr underlayers. This study shows that the residual remanence after demagnetisation becomes periodic when the field increment becomes greater than the standard deviation of the switching field distribution.
