In the study of culture learning, similarities and differences in a group of people must be studied at different levels. Based on an ethnographic study on the life of Indonesian university students in Japan, the A. examines how Muslim Indonesians interpreted and acted on the issue of drinking alcohol at Japanese parties with their professors and other students. The concepts cultural model and cultural schema have been very useful in the analysis and particularly helpful in clarifying the mechanisms of intracultural variation.
