Methods for estimating timber production are discussed and 7 equations were fitted to E. grandis data by linear regression. A polynomial estimating growth as a function of age, water input (represented by annual actual evapotranspiration), nutrient input (represented by P in kg per hectare) solar radiation (represented by hours of sunshine) and growing stock (b.a.) was considered to be the most appropriate. The potential uses of the production function in intensive forest management are discussed. 55 references.
