Michigan State University, East Lansing, n1, USA the annals of the technical drying literature the Spray Dry ling Handbook by Uasters is unique. No book on dehydration has ever been revised four times, not even the standard drying texts by grischer (1956) and by Luikov (1955). The first three editions of)(asters1 Spray Drying Handbook have been a commercial success; the last edition will be no exception. It IS a solid book to be recommended to students as well as to practitioners of the unit operation of spray drying. Spray drying is a maJor dehydration technique in the chemical and food industries. It is rivaled in commercial importance only by fluidized bed drying. Both areas have been the topics of separate books (Masters, 1979; Botterill, 1975); this contrasts with other dehydration texts which cover the gamut of drying techniques (Brooker et al. 1974; Keey, 1972). Hhy in depth coverage of spray drying requires separate treatment becones clear fro. a closer examination of Uaster's Spray Drying Handbook; althougn 696 pages in length, some essential topics ape considered only superficially.
