Thebg(beige) region of chromosome 13 was characterized using 20 novel sequence-tagged sites, and overlapping yeast artificial chromosome and P1 clones encompassing most of the region (2400 kb) were isolated. The study represents an intermediate step in the positional cloning ofbg, and may be of value in positional cloning of thecrandpmngenes.
