Additionally, APL cell infiltration must be diagnosed because the cutaneous involvement of APL cells at onset is a major risk factor associated with reduced patient survival. Dear Editor, For acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), induction therapy with all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) can be effective; 1 however, ATRA induces neutrophil differentiation and may be associated with side effects. 2 The most prominent associated side effect is differentiation syndrome. 2 The second-leading ATRA-associated side effect is Sweet syndrome, also referred to as neutrophilic dermatosis, which is characterized by the development of neutrophil-infiltrating erythema and fever. 3 The diagnosis and discrimination between these ATRA-associated syndromes can be difficult.
