A proterosuchian reptile, Tasmaniosaurus triassicus gen. et sp. nov. was found in a pond deposit within the Knocklofty Formation of Early Triassic age near Hobart, southern Tasmania. It is the first evidence of this group in Australia. It shows many similarities with Proterosuchus and Euparkeria but some similarities to other proterosuchians, especially proterochampsids, some phytosaurs and even eosuchians on the one hand and early theropods on the other.
