Further, the authors state that forthe course to be effective the students should have had a" rigorous" statistical methodscourse, as well as be familiar with statistical inference, analysis of variance, regression, and have" some understanding of an appreciation for linear models and their role instatistical inference." Even with all of the prerequisites, I believe that first yeargraduate students would be overwhelmed by much of this book.Chapter 1 is an interesting beginning to a statistical textbook. It isentitled" The Process of Science" and is 29 pages of philosophy. I found the chapter interesting reading. In order to motivate the need for experimental design the authors coversuch ideas as observation, development of theory, what science is, the role of experiments, etc.
