A new, simple analytical radiochemical method for the determination of Am tracer involves the Ag-catalyzed peroxydisulfate oxidation of trivalent Am to the sexivalent state. Fluoride stabilizes the americyl ion during a series of La fluoride scavenges. Excellent separation of Am tracer is effected from Cm, Bk, Cf, Pu, U, Th, Cs, Sr, Zr, Nb, Ru, Fe, Al, and lanthanide elements. Several useful analytical and process applications of the efficient purification method are discussed. (auth)
