A method was developed for the simultaneous quantitation of several aldonic acids and aldoses. The aldoses were converted to alditol acetates and the aldonic acids were converted to N-propylaldonamide acetates. A standard mixture containing the derivatized ribonic, mannonic, gluconic and galactonic acids and arabinose, xylose, mannose, glucose and galactose was separated by GLC in 18 min. Phenyl-.beta.-D-glucopyranoside was used as an internal standard.
