The subcellular fractions of the developing chick liver have been studied by immunological methods. The mitochondrial fraction from 9 day old embryos exhibits the reaction pattern as the one prepared from the adult liver. The microsomal and the cell sap fractions prepared from embryonic liver acquire some adult type antigens during the course of development. In the earliest stages of development some of the antigens typical of the adult microsomes (proved to be bound to the RNP particles) are apparently lacking. The embryonic microsomal fraction shows a higher RNA/ protein N ratio than that of the adult microsomes until the 18th day of development, when the ratio becomes of the adult type.
