BackgroundNorth western Mem orial Hospital (NMH), th e prin cipal affiliated teach in gh ospital of North western Un iversity Medical School in Chicago, has a 33-bed dedicated oncology unit. This unit has a dedicated satellite pharm acy with a staff of six ph arm acists an d six tech n ician s. Each month the oncology unit was staffed by approximately 40 oncology nurses, 4 or 5 internal medicine interns, 2 internal medicine residents, and 1 or 2 oncology fellows. In addition, there were 2 onservice atten din g ph ysician s an d several private atten din g ph ysicians who admitted patients to the unit each month.
