The presence of nucleated red blood cells in the peripheral blood is generally a sign that the prognosis is poor, as evidenced by the mortality rate of almost 50% in the present study. Because of the nature of the underlying conditions, the prognosis is better in hemolytic anemia, hemorrhage, and pernicious anemia. The prognosis is least good in carcinomatosis and leukemia.
