Dowex-1, an anion exchange resin, was used to remove bound pantothenates from bird liver enzyme; with intestinal phosphatase the enzyme was then used to liberate bound pantothenic acid for the estimation. The resin treatment greatly reduced the magnitude of the blank value in the test. In co-enzyme A and similar forms of bound pantothenate, the enzyme is believed to attack a peptide linkage between the carboxyl of pantothenic acid and the amino-group of thiolethylamine. R.
