Two cAMP-dependent kinase activities, corresponding to the Type I and Type II isozymes characterized in other tissues, have been partially purified from Xenopus laevis oocytes both before and during progesteroneinduced maturation in vitro. The two activities are present in approximately equimolar concentrations in ovarian oocytes and the total kinase concentration has been estimated at 0.2–0.4 μM minimally. The relative activities of the two isozymes do not change during oocyte maturation.
