This paper describes measurements of the brightness temperature of the sky as measured at 404 Mc/s with a beam of width 7. 5 between half-power points. The region surveyed lies between declinations− 20 to+ 90. The observed noise powers have been compared with those available from resistances at different temperatures and particular attention has been paid to corrections for radiation received in side-lobes of the beam from the ground and other parts of the sky. The average error in the brightness temperature differences between any two points observed is believed to be±0.8 K and the error in the absolute temperature at an average point is about±2.2 K.
