The formation of a complex with an osmium-silver bond precedes the actual electron transfer Os --> Ag in the oxidation of trans-[Os(CO3(PPh3)2)] with Ag(O2CCF3) as indicated by the results of electrochemical measurements and the X-ray structure analysis of the title complex depicted below (the phenyl groups of the phosphine ligands are not shown). This complex can thus be considered a model for intermediates in the oxidation of organometallic compounds by Ag+.
