Nor and neither are frequent words in English. Both of them carry out a number of different functions in the language, one of which is that of clause introducer. As certain factors seem to bear on their use as clause introducers in an interesting way, I shall make it my business in this paper to discuss some of them. In so doing I hope to lay bare the workings of a stylistic mechanism that is used unobtrusively but with a very definite effect by many writers.
