MATERIALS AND METHODSCells, viruses, and viral DNA. The established cell lines CV-1 and Rat 1 and SV40 strain 776 were propagated as described by Sleigh et al.(1978). tsA209 was prepared according to the method of Gluzman et al.(1977). Viral DNA was extracted by the Hirt (1967) procedure and supercoiled (form-I) DNA was isolated from CsCl-ethidium-bromide gradients.
