When writing journal articles, we have all felt the frustration of restrictions imposed by being limited to the printed word to describe animal behavior. Even still photographs, while useful, are not always enough. This is why the Journal of Ethology has made the bold decision to accept a new category of article called “video articles.” A video article can contain a video image of animal behavior as part of the main article, not just in an appendix, where some recent scientific journals have included URLs. Online video is particularly useful, as readers can reach the content with a single mouse click. For an example, please see the article by Takahashi et al. (2003).
