In this chapter, the author looked back on what we have covered in this book on the following points. (1) Purpose and implementation status of the saiban-in system, (2) social attitude towards the saiban-in system, (3) characteristics of deliberations in the saiban-in system, (4) impact on the trust in the justice system, (5) foci of media coverage, (6) democratic values and “popular base” of the justice system. To summarize, (1) the saiban-in system was introduced to promote “popular base of the justice system.” Although it is slight compared to the total number of criminal trials, it hears a considerable proportion of incidents of violent cases. Moreover, there are already a large number of civilians who have become judges and reserve saiban - ins. (2) Citizens who experienced the saiban-ins had a positive attitude after their experience. (3) In the saiban-in system, it was found that the judge could quickly take over the initiative because the judge had authority to proceed with information and discussion. (4) The saiban-in system had a positive influence on the trust in the justice system. On the other hand, (5) discussions on introduction to media coverage. Initially, the significance of the introduction of the saiban-in system was often discussed, but as time went on, negative news coverage increased. Regarding (6), the saiban-in system means that citizens express their opinions by citizens participating directly in the trial and that they will care what they say if the judges are citizens It is thought that the civilian general will be reflected in the trial. Based on the above, at the end of this chapter, we discussed the overall evaluations of the saiban-in system.
