This paper discusses the age of the Early Cretaceous strata in the Bayingebi Basin based on K-Ar isotopic ages of basalt rocks and their relationship with basin evolution.It is proposed that the Bayingebi Formation can be divided into two members according to paleoclimatic evidence.The possible stratigraphic relationship between the Upper Member of the Bayingebi Formation and the Suhongtu Formation is considered.It is concluded that the Bayingebi Basin is characterized by Early Cretaceous volcanic-sedimentary strata.The definition of the Bayingebi Formation is refined,and it is recommended that the Suhongtu Formation be abandoned.
