Thiabendazole is a highly effective anthelmintic against the gastrointestinal nematodes of sheep (except Trichuris spp.). It was much more effective than the other anthelmintics in common use (with the exception of a phenothiazine-phenzidole mixture). It was very effective against the immature and mature worms. Treated sheep graze 2-3 hrs. after treatment with very little risk of contamination. Fattening lambs treated monthly with thiabendazole had greater weight gains than untreated controls and those treated with phenothiazine. Merino weaners treated regularly with thiabendazole gained more weight and produced more wool than both untreated controls and sheep treated with ultramized phenothiazine. Treatment every second month with thiabendazole gave results comparable to monthly treatment. Treatment with thiabendazole every second month gave better results than treatment every month with ultramized phenothiazine. Treated sheep were usually selected for the breeding flock; thiabendazole was superior to ultramized phenothiazine. || ABSTRACT AUTHORS: Author
