tests to detect antibodies. Our patient had been treated before for lupus vulgaris, which is relatively more common than sporotrichosis. Apart from sporotrichosis, the differential diagnosis included cutaneous leishmaniasis, lupus vulgaris caused by multi-drug resistant bacilli, and leprosy. SSKI therapy was effective without significant side effects. Currently, itraconazole is gaining popularity, but in cutaneous forms, SSKI remains an inexpensive option that may succeed where itraconazole fails. The fixity of the lesion is attributed to host resistance in high endemic regions, small inoculum, facial location, and strains that cannot survive at temperatures above 35 C.
