Summary In this study, polyurethane-urea microcapsules containing fabric softener fragrance (TeddysoftTM, by EPS) as active agents were produced by interfacial polymerization. Size, shape and morphology of the microcapsules were studied by using an optical microscope and scanning electron microscope. The effectiveness of the fragrance containing microcapsules was tested by washing hand towels in a commercial washing machine. Textile impregnation and the durability of the fragrance impregnation effect were evaluated qualitatively by perfumers, and by headspace GC analysis. Optical and scanning electron microscopic results indicated that increasing the stirring rate during the emulsion step results in microcapsules with smaller particle size, but at some point morphologies were adversely affected.
