Purposes and Recommended Uses The Test of Early Reading Ability 2 (Reid, Hresko, & Hammill, 1989) "measures children's ability to attribute meaning to printed symbols, their knowledge of the alphabet and its functions, and their understanding of the conventions of print" (p, 1). According to the authors, TERA-2 is intended to: (a) identify children whose reading ability differs significantly from their peers; (b) monitor a child's reading progress; (c) assist in instructional decisions and evaluation; and (d) serve as a measurement device inresearch studies pertaining to emergent reading in preschool populations.
